Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated: 2 November 2026

1.Who this applies to#

This policy applies to everyone who uses Tooition: teachers, their staff, families and visitors. It is part of our Terms of Service. It covers teacher websites, files, recordings, messages, the AI assistant, and anything else you put into or do with Tooition.

2.Nothing illegal#

Don’t use Tooition for anything that is illegal where you are or where your audience is, or to help anyone else do something illegal. This includes selling illegal goods or services, money laundering, and breaching sanctions.

3.No harassment, hate or threats#

Don’t bully, harass, threaten, intimidate or stalk anyone. Don’t publish content that promotes violence or hatred against people because of race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, age or similar characteristics. Don’t publish someone’s private information without their permission.

4.No adult content#

Tooition is used by families and children. Don’t upload, publish or send sexually explicit, pornographic or otherwise adult content, or graphic violence. Any content that sexualises children is strictly prohibited and will be reported to the relevant authorities.

5.Keep children safe#

  • Don’t contact, communicate with or behave towards a child in a way that is inappropriate, exploitative or that a reasonable parent would object to.
  • Don’t share a child’s recordings, images, files or personal information publicly, or with anyone who shouldn’t have them.
  • Don’t collect more information about children than you need to teach them, and don’t try to get around the age and consent protections in Tooition.
  • Teachers must meet the child-safety requirements that apply to them. See the Teacher Agreement.

6.No impersonation or misleading claims#

Don’t pretend to be another person, teacher, school or organisation, or suggest you are connected with someone you aren’t. Don’t make false or misleading claims about your qualifications, experience, accreditations, prices or results, and don’t post fake reviews or testimonials.

7.No phishing, spam or fraud#

  • Don’t use a Tooition site or email to collect passwords, card numbers or other sensitive details under false pretences.
  • Don’t send spam or unsolicited bulk messages, or messages that break anti-spam laws.
  • Don’t take payments for lessons or products you don’t intend to provide, or set up a site for a business that doesn’t exist.

We review teacher websites, before and after publishing, and we take down sites that are used for phishing, spam or fraud. Publishing also requires a verified email and either Stripe payouts or a verified card.

8.Only upload content you have rights to#

Only upload content you own or have permission to use. That includes photos, logos, text, sheet music, backing tracks and recordings. Many scores and recordings are protected by copyright even if they’re easy to find online. Get consent from a parent or guardian before uploading a recording of a child.

If you believe content on Tooition infringes your copyright or other rights, email [email protected] with: your contact details, the content and its web address, the rights you own, and a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn’t authorised. We’ll review it, may remove the content, and may tell the person who posted it so they can respond. We may close the accounts of repeat infringers.

9.Don’t attack or overload Tooition#

  • Don’t try to access accounts, data or systems you aren’t authorised to access, or test our security without our written permission.
  • Don’t upload malware or anything designed to harm devices or data.
  • Don’t scrape, crawl or bulk-download Tooition or teacher sites, or get around rate limits, bot checks or plan limits.
  • Don’t use Tooition in a way that puts an unreasonable load on our systems or interferes with other users.

10.Using the AI assistant responsibly#

Don’t try to get the AI assistant to produce content this policy prohibits, to get around its safety screening, or to generate misleading content about real people. Don’t rely on it for medical, legal, financial or safety advice.

11.What we do if this policy is broken#

Depending on how serious the problem is, we may:

  • ask you to change or remove content;
  • remove content, or take a website offline;
  • limit features, or suspend or close the account; and
  • report the matter to Stripe, law enforcement or child-protection authorities where appropriate or required.

Where it’s safe and lawful, we’ll tell you what we did and why, and you can reply to [email protected] if you think we got it wrong.

12.Reporting a problem#

To report a site, content or behaviour that breaks this policy, email [email protected] with the web address and what you saw. If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local police or emergency services first.
